The STREMAC was created under Article 30, Section 3004-A of the New York State Public Health Law. The committee's statutory responsibilities include:

• development of policies, procedures, and triage, treatment, and transportation protocols
• approve physicians to provide on line medical control
• coordinate the development of regional medical control systems
• participate in quality improvement activities addressing system-wide concerns
